Synopsis:

In the rapidly changing world technology, the requirement on the modern engineer to keep up to date is becoming an increasing problem.

How do engineers stay in touch with new developments and exchange ideas about their work? One way is by attending activities organised by their professional body such as the event the IET (Institution of Electrical Engineers) Essex is holding on 11 April 2001 at Anglia Polytechnic University in Chelmsford.

"Essex Engineers Live!" is designed to encourage networking and has discussion groups covering "hot topics" in the electrical engineering field.

Many of the major electrical engineering companies in Essex will be present to promote their presence and employment possibilities in the County, as well as representatives from educational establishments who will be on hand with details of courses available.

IET membership advisors will be there to help people who wish to join the IET or upgrade their membership status. A representative from the IET mentoring service will also be present to explain the scheme. This is particularly useful for people working in the smaller companies who need a sounding board for advice on career progression.

Refreshments will be available throughout the evening.

Entry is free and is open to all. Wheelchairs can access the rooms in APU.

Optical communications have improved somewhat since then, and are
