I graduated from Birmingham University in 1997 with a degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering With Management. I was a student member of the IET whilst at university and became an associate member when I started my IET accredited training programme at Marconi Radar later that year. I have attended a number of lectures over the past year or so and find them interesting, as they provide an insight into various areas of engineering and science.

Profile:

I graduated from the University of Westminster in July 2002 with a degree in Control and Computer Engineering. I am now a software engineer at BAE Systems Insyte in Chelmsford , and am studying an MSc in Systems Engineering in my spare time.

I've been involved with the local branch of the IET Younger Members
since moving to Chelmsford in 2002, and have taken up the reins as Chair since 2004.
In my spare time, I'm an avid collector of retro gaming paraphernalia, owning many old consoles and games including a full-size arcade machine that takes up a large proportion of the living room!

Profile:

I read Engineering at the University of Cambridge (Christ's College), graduating in 2004.  I work for BAE Systems in Chelmsford , who sponsored me through my degree.  My current role involves the rapid development of software to allow elements of a radar system to be tested and project risk thereby reduced.

I joined the IET in 2000 during my year in industry.  I'm now Secretary of the Essex branch Younger Members' Committee, through which I also became involved in SETPOINT Essex.

My free time activities include playing badminton and the piano, but not at the same time.

Profile:

I took my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Warwick .  During this time I took a one-year placement at National Grid.  I then did a postgraduate degree at what was once UMIST.  After my gap year, where I worked at a charity shop and a nature reserve, I began my graduate scheme at Tube Lines.
So far I have worked under the Electrification and Power, Station Comms Upgrade and Signalling disciplines there.
My role as the Student Liaison allows me to inform those 16 to 18 year olds who are interested in a career in engineering.
Outside of work I enjoy reading, films and socialising.  I have recently joined my company's Dragon Boat team.  We are practicing at the moment for the big race on the Thames in July.

In 2002 I moved to Brussels , Belgium and the following year, still in Brussels  I joined ERTICO, where I work in the Intelligent Transport Systems domain, coordinating an industry development forum for the Traffic Message Channel technology for getting traffic info into vehicle navigation systems.

I am the Publicity Officer for the IET Essex Younger Members.

I don't always look as dodgy as in the photograph.

I enjoy foreign holidays, exploring London, programming and doing mad things like flying in helicopters!

I update the IEE Essex website now and again.
